PHILIPPINE IDOL may be the local franchise of the world-famous American Idol but its three resident judges – Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Asia’s Queen of Song Pilita Corrales and Master Rapper Francis M. – are definitely no copycats of AI’s Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. And they don’t intend to be.

For one thing, we all know Cayabyab’s experience in the music business. He has worked with the best singers in the land and on the sole basis of his extensive experience, he definitely would know what he is looking for in a Philippine Idol.

Corrales, too, has had a long, stellar career. She is considered as the original Philippine diva and has countless hits and gold record albums. As such, she knows how it is to be a real singer and this musical wisdom, so to speak, will help her ferret out the good singers from the bad.

Francis M, on the other hand, may be relatively less experienced than the other two judges, but he surely has his share of musical successes – what with rap-rock hits like “Mga Kababayan Ko” and “Kaleidoscope World.” Francis M brings a younger and more contemporary perspective to the judging process.
